Lorry Loaders |
Widely used by operators of access platforms, vehicle mounted boom lifts, cranes and mobile plant, and for exhibition and trailer units, they provide effective support for stabilisers and outrigger feet on terrain where load bearing capacity is an issue, such as soft ground or sensitive flooring. They reduce the overall pressure on the ground by spreading the load over a larger surface area and effectively supporting the equipment.
Not 100% sure on what size you need?
Contact the APS team and we can provide guidance on the size of the pads required for your equipment.
It’s useful to know maximum load per outrigger and maximum allowable ground pressure in the same unit of measurement.
Don’t worry if you don’t know the ground pressure – you can give us an idea of the surface material type to help us guide your outrigger pad or crane pad choice.

Toolbox Talk – Checking Ground Conditions
This toolbox talk applies to:
- User (who has control of the use of the MEWP on site);
- Site manager and supervisors where MEWPs are in use;
- MEWP operators.
Ground conditions are critical for the stability of the mobile elevating work platform (MEWP). Unsuitable ground conditions can result in the MEWP overturning with potential loss of life.

What are Crane Pads?
Crane pads, commonly known as crane mats, foot pads, outrigger pads or stabiliser pads, are strong platforms, placed under the stabilisers of a crane. Manufactured from high quality HMPE, crane pads are manufactured to withstand extreme pressure with large load capacities.
Why do Cranes Need Pads for their Outriggers?
The primary reason cranes require pads for their outriggers is to ensure stability and safety during operation. They achieve this by spreading the load over a larger surface area, supporting the equipment weight and preventing it from tipping or sinking into soft or sensitive surfaces.
Can I use crane pads on other machinery?
Crane pads are versatile. They can be used for various plant and machinery, including mobile cranes, spider boom lifts, concrete pumps, scissor lifts, and lorry loaders.
Do i need outrigger pads when operating on a slope?
Yes, outriggers and spreader pads (outrigger pads) must be on level and stable ground.
