The Hinowa TeleCrawler13 – the world’s first all-electric drive tracked platform – has won the innovation in technology award at IAPA 2021, the International Awards for Powered Access.

Judges described the platform as “outstanding”. Combining all-electric drive with other innovative features, it was “as close to a perfect machine as possible in today’s powered access market”.

Steve Couling, Managing Director of Access Platform Sales, UK and Ireland authorised distributor for Hinowa products, said: “We’re delighted that the ingenuity of our colleagues at Hinowa has been recognised once again.

“Hinowa has always sought to be ahead of the market on smart design and new capabilities and the reception given to the TeleCrawler13 shows they’ve lost none of their ability to surprise and impress.

"The Hinowa TeleCrawler13 pushes back the boundaries of spider platform design and, like all great innovative products, will create new possibilities for working at height.”

The Hinowa TeleCrawler13 has two formats – the TeleCrawler 13N with a particularly compact stabilisation area for one-person operation with a unrestricted maximum lift capacity of 136kg.

This allows it to be set up within an area of just 2.45m by 2.9m, equivalent to a parking space for a single car, to provide a maximum working height of 12.9m and a maximum outreach of 6.4m.

The Hinowa TeleCrawler13S has the same height and outreach performance, with a larger stabilisation area (2.7m by 3.05m) and a larger unrestricted maximum basket capacity of 230kg.

When stowed for tracking, with tracks retracted, the spider platform is just 748mm wide, so can be moved through a single doorway. As with other Hinowa platforms, it has compressed air and water supply to the basket.

The platform’s electric drive motors are more efficient than hydraulic drive so allow the platform to be fitted with a smaller lithium battery, reducing its weight and contributing to its small size.

The TeleCrawler13 is designed to be operated for up to three days on one full charge – minimising its carbon footprint while providing reliable and long-lasting zero-emissions and low noise working.

New narrow and foldable basket forks aids movement in confined spaces

By carrying much less hydraulic oil, the TeleCrawler13 reduces the risk of pollution risks caused by spills and more effectively supports working at height in clean environments.

Among a raft of other smart new functions, the platform has a new ‘go back’ feature. This takes the basket back to a previously designated working at height position, supporting safety and productivity.

The basket can be quickly removed to help track the platform through narrow gaps or around corners. A clever additional feature is the ability to flip up the basket forks to shorten the platform still further.

Access rental company Elavation became APS’s first UK customer to invest in the Hinowa TeleCrawler13. It is full of praise for the way Hinowa has combined so many useful features in one new design.

Elavation Specialist Machines Operations Manager Mandy McClements-John said it was an “exciting” new platform, adding: “I have no doubt its unique compactness will allow it to work at height in spaces not attempted before with other spider platforms.”
