Digger hire business has high hopes for Hinowa spider investment

Hinowa spider lift

A growing plant and tool hire company is diversifying into access rental with the purchase of a Hinowa Lightlift spider lift from Access Platform Sales.

Lewis Digger Hire, in Romford, Essex, has taken delivery of a new Hinowa Lightlift 20.10 Performance IIIS as a first step to creating a new access platform hire business.

Very versatile platform

Company director Lews Newton said: “We wanted a platform that was most compatible with our current customer base, but would be attractive to other customers as we grow.

“Spider lifts fitted that bill and they attract premium rental values. It was clear that Hinowa is the market leading spider lift in the UK, and is likely to be most popular with potential customers.

“It’s an excellent platform, the build quality is very good, and it’s very versatile, so we’re expecting to pick up a lot of new different kinds of customers by having it available to hire.

“The advice and support provided by APS has been very good, and we will be using their servicing and maintenance service to keep the platform LOLER compliant and in top condition going forward.”

Hire with operator

Linda Betts, Major Accounts Director at APS, the UK and Ireland Authorised Distributor for Hinowa, said: “I really think Lewis has made a smart decision.

“The experience of other smaller rental specialists is that the strong niche Hinowa has made for itself across many sectors means there is healthy demand for its services.

“I know Lewis is also keen to offer his Hinowa spider lift as a hire with operator service, which attracts higher rental fees and ensures the machine is looked after well.”

The Hinowa Lightlift 20.10 has a maximum working height of 20.1m and a maximum outreach of 9.7m. Its unrestricted basket capacity of 230kg is universally appreciated for supporting flexible working.

Founded in 2018, Lewis Digger Hire has grown to offer more than 100 machines, including diggers, dumpers and crushers, plus a range of tools, including wacker plates and pumps.

Ideal for confines spaces

The Hinowa Lightlift 20.10 tracked spider cherry picker will appeal to construction and maintenance contractors who need access to hard-to-reach places, such as back gardens, said Lewis Newton.

He explained: “A lot of our builder clients are working on house extensions, while we supply maintenance contractors working on large houses, nursing homes and blocks of flats.

“Both these customers often need to work at height at locations down paths and behind properties. Because the Hinowa spider lift is just 790mm wide when being tracked, it’s ideal.”

Cleaning companies, decorators and tree surgeons are also on Lewis Digger Hire’s list of prospective clients, with the offer of platform and operator hire after his team completed IPAF training.

The ability to transport and deliver the Hinowa 20.10 spider lift on a 3.5t trailer is a big advantage for rental companies and end-user customers.

3.5t trailer transport

The company has selected the bi-energy version of the spider lift. It can be powered with a low-emissions diesel engine or via a 110v mains cable for working indoors or at noise-sensitive locations.

The Hinowa Lightlift 20.10 spider lift is ideal for working across rough and unstable ground or sensitive floors, such as paved paths and patios.

It also has a range of functions that make working at height safer and easier, including a wireless control unit with one button touch outrigger levelling and stowing.

The spider boom lift can also be transported on a 3.5t trailer towed by a 4x4 car or van driven with a standard driving licence, which is ideal both for Lewis Newton and its team or customers.
